The Hairy Puffer (Tetraodon baileyi) is a rare and fascinating freshwater pufferfish species native to fast-flowing rivers and streams in Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand and Laos. Its “hairy” appearance comes from small skin extensions that help with camouflage among rocks and debris.
A true ambush predator, the Hairy Puffer thrives on a carnivorous diet. Feed a variety of meaty foods such as shrimp, bloodworms, earthworms, and small feeder fish. Hard-shelled foods like snails help wear down their ever-growing teeth.
Best kept in a species-only tank due to their aggression and territorial nature.
